Learn About the IV International La BioZona Congress 2026

La BioZona is an international congress focused on science, research, and innovation. In its fourth edition, it will be held virtually from Mexico. Each year, this space brings together students, researchers, and science communicators from different countries to present original projects before an active and committed academic community.

Each presentation lasts 10 minutes, followed by a round of questions from the audience. Selected participants must submit abstracts, titles, and bios that are included in the official congress materials, turning each presentation into a real contribution to the event’s scientific record.

The organizing committee of the IV Congress officially confirmed the participation of our Seeds, expressing their enthusiasm about having them in this edition. Therefore, this Saturday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m. Central Mexico Time, the trial session will take place, where they will learn about the event’s dynamics.

Three Topics. Meaningful Research.

The projects our Seeds will present are investigations built from genuine curiosity, scientific rigor, and a critical perspective on the state of the oceans and the planet.

Simón Andrés Moreno — M1

The Giant Hammerhead Shark and the Effects of Acidification

Simón chose to investigate how ocean acidification, one of the direct effects of climate change, impacts one of the sea’s most iconic and vulnerable species. His work connects marine biology with environmental urgency and raises questions that go beyond the classroom.

Jerónimo Santos Ramírez — L1

The Glow of the Sea: Bioluminescence and Environmental Disruption

Jerónimo explored bioluminescence, that fascinating luminous phenomenon that occurs in the depths of the ocean, to analyze how environmental disruption is transforming this natural process. His research brings together beauty and crisis, science and awareness.

Valerie Salas Barraza — M1

The White Sea: The Death of the Ocean

Valerie focused on the issue of discoloration and death of oceanic algae, a phenomenon that silently and profoundly affects marine ecosystems. Her research brings attention to processes that often go unnoticed, but whose consequences are enormous.

The Role of Our Grower Kateleen Guevara

Behind every academic achievement of our Seeds, there is a Grower who believed first.

Grower Kateleen accompanied Simón, Jerónimo, and Valerie throughout the entire preparation process that brought them here.

Her work was not only about teaching scientific content. It was about developing research and communication skills with them within the STEAM approach: how to build an idea, how to formulate it with rigor, how to communicate it clearly, and how to stand confidently before challenging questions in an international setting.

At Renfort, Growers are exactly that: people who design paths, beyond simply transmitting information. Kateleen knew how to see and highlight the potential of each Seed. She accompanied them through their doubts, celebrated their progress, and gave them the tools to arrive at this congress as what they truly are: young researchers with something genuine to say to the world.

Why Is It Important to Reach These Spaces?

Because personalized education is not only about adapting pace or schedule. It is also about opening doors that, in the traditional system, often remain closed to those who learn differently, think differently, or simply need an environment where their curiosity is treated as a strength.

Simón, Jerónimo, and Valerie do not only represent Renfort at La BioZona. They represent what is possible when we allow our students to be, to research, to make mistakes, and to grow. They represent alternative education in its most powerful form: the kind that inspires other Seeds to raise their hands and say, “I also have a question worth answering.”
