“Who came up with the idea of giving children two full months of vacation?” This was the question posed by entrepreneur Felipe Novoa in a LinkedIn post that sparked conversation and a wave of emotions. The reflection is simple: families work all year long, yet the traditional school calendar continues to offer extended breaks that don’t match real life.

Two months without school might sound great on paper, but what do families do during that time? How do they plan weeks of activities while maintaining their work responsibilities?

An empathetic calendar tailored to families

For years, the traditional Calendar B school year has included long breaks of up to two months. In theory, this extended rest period gives students time to relax and allows families to share moments together.

However, reality is often more complicated. Parents, guardians, and caregivers who work year-round face real challenges in managing such a long period without school. Organizing childcare for weeks at a time, keeping children motivated, and making sure they don’t lose academic momentum becomes a complex task, both emotionally and logistically.

Additionally, the lack of ongoing care or activities during these long breaks can cause anxiety for children and adults alike, affecting emotional well-being and making work–life balance even harder to achieve.

At Renfort Personalized School, we knew it was time to rethink this. That’s why our educational approach is also reflected in our academic calendar. Our seeds (students) in both Calendar A and Calendar B study for 11 months a year, within a structure designed to support families without compromising well-being or learning.

This is not a strict rule; it’s an empathetic, realistic, and deeply human decision. It was born from listening to our Renfort Families, understanding their work dynamics, daily challenges, and their need for a school that walks alongside them.

At Renfort, we understood it was time to be truly present for families.

More months, fewer hours: real balance

Why 11 months? Because our school days are shorter and more flexible. This structure allows us to maintain gentle, student-friendly schedules while ensuring emotional, academic, and social continuity throughout the year.

Instead of two or more months of pause that interrupt processes and motivation, our school breaks are strategically spread across the year—offering moments for emotional rest, family bonding, and rhythm recovery, all without losing the flow of learning.

In addition, we offer afternoon extracurricular spaces called Time Off, with activities chosen based on each seed’s interests. These spaces help students strengthen skills, discover new passions, and keep learning through enjoyment and autonomy.

Renfort is both Calendar A and Calendar B

Renfort offers both Calendar A and Calendar B options across our in-person and remote campuses, which means we can keep enrollment open year-round and allow families to choose the calendar that best fits their needs. Whether it’s due to a move, a school change, or a conscious decision to start fresh, at Renfort, school mobility is possible, intentional, and welcomed.

A school that understands Calendar B families

We know families who choose Calendar B need options that adapt to their reality. That’s why we keep open pathways for calendar changes when required and provide personalized support to help each family find the balance that works best for them.

At Renfort, Calendar B is not just an academic model—it’s an empathetic and flexible proposal that addresses the real challenges of balancing work, care, and learning in a changing world.
